Overview & Responsibilities

A Professional Services Senior Application Consultant is required for an Infrastructure & Cloud Hosting Services Consultancy, to help customers perform application transformation and project-based modernisation of Infrastructure & Cloud Applications across a diverse customer base.

As a practice area leader, this Senior consultant will serve as the key technical contact and subject matter expert for the customers and Rackers alike. You will be hands on at the creation stage of this new technical practice area in a fast-growing cloud Professional Services business. This will require a balance of both technical and leadership skills.

The ideal candidate will be a technology leader who has several years’ experience of working with hyperscale cloud platforms - AWS, Azure or Google. This should include tools related to Containers, Infrastructure Automation, Application development, API usage, Agile methodologies, centralised logging and metrics, and Cloud-first application architecture.

Your engagements will see you working directly with customers and prospects across EMEA as well as educating other Rackers about the value of a balanced, pragmatic approach to optimising applications to run in the cloud. Each engagement will see you understanding our customers and prospects specific needs and require you to understand complex applications that may sit across a multitude of service models and technologies.

Some engagements will require you to be hands on with the technologies, enabling you to collaborate with the customer to create the desired outcome.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced developer and technology leader who has been working with mission-critical systems and understands the importance of the modern container ecosystem: including automation, culture, measurement, and iterative processes – and how to overcome technical and operational challenges.


  • Provide customer-facing workshops to educate customers and prospects and gather information for analysis and recommendations.

  • Work with Solutions Architects and DevOps Engineers to design and accelerate customer adoption of container technologies.

  • Work directly with the customer to implement the changes required to optimise applications for their chosen platforms.

  • Work with Project Managers to deliver customer outcomes on time and on budget.

  • Write and maintain documentation and materials for customer and Rackspace internal audiences.


The ideal candidate for this role will have worked previously in a development capacity, and have a practical understanding of Container technologies, Infrastructure Automation, and Application development methodologies. In addition, the right candidate will have the following skills:

  • Familiarity with Linux containers: usage and orchestration (e.g. Docker, Mesosphere, Kubernetes, Amazon ECS, Packer).

  • Expert working knowledge of Operating Systems (Windows and/or Linux).

  • Good knowledge of public cloud technologies (AWS, Azure and Google Cloud Platform)

  • Good knowledge of Technical Operations in the cloud (Prometheus, CloudWatch, SSM, Cloud Formation

  • Good knowledge of tools such as Terraform and Packer

  • Advanced knowledge and demonstrable proficiency in any programming language (e.g. Python, Java, PHP, JavaScript)

  • Good knowledge of collaborative application development using Agile methodologies and distributed revision control (e.g. Git).

  • Full stack development as part of experience. Certain level of familiarity with development patterns.

  • Engages at senior (C-level) with customer and third parties both formally and informally

  • Actively contribute to Best Practices, toolkit and methodologies within area of expertise
